Sustainable development in Brighton given the go-ahead
Brighton and Hove's planning committee has given a unanimous vote in favour of a sustainable development for the area of St James's Street in Brighton.
Sustainable property development consultancy, BohoGreen, was the company behind the planning application for 25-28 St James's Street which was given the rubber stamp of approval at a recent planning meeting.
The scheme will be a continuation of the ethos of Colin Brace's Hove-based company and will reportedly encompass several cutting-edge energy saving and generating techniques.
Mr. Brace said that gaining a unanimous vote for the project from the planning committee was "totally uplifting".
"Working with organisations such as Brighton & Hove Council's Arts Commission to create a new and exciting community art project- the art wall has inspired me to get more involved in local projects and groups. The intention of the scheme is to bring together all sections of the St. James's Street and neighbouring Kemp Town communities to celebrate the vibrancy of the area and its residents," explained Mr. Brace.
"We are going to build a highly sustainable development for the area of St James's Street and are looking to inspire public involvement to make it work. It isn't just about a building's design and technical specifications; it is about using these sustainable developments to bring people together for both the community and the environment".
The highly insulating building materials, the rainwater harvesting and the photovoltaic roof membrane to harvest solar energy are just some of the eco procedures Bohogreen have instigated. These measures, combined with other energy saving features, have managed to secure the development a Level 4 for Sustainable Homes Award.
