Courchevel 1850 getting a makeover
News on France
Work has got underway on one of the biggest regeneration projects on the French Alps, which will change the face of fashionable Courchevel 1850.
The construction scheme will include the creation of new leaseback apartments within a major new residence de tourisme and a new aparthotel with 20 suites, which together will replace five derelict buildings in the centre of Courchevel 1850.
The multi-million pound four-star standard development by the MGM Group is one of the biggest transformation programmes seen in the French Alps in recent years.
"The scale of this ‘brownfield’ development underlines the shortage of new sites for development in the areas of greatest demand for modern accommodation," says Nathalie Turchet, London-based sales manager of MGM which is selling the new apartments to UK buyers.
"The steeply sloping site means that the design and construction processes are complex, with the buildings being anchored into the rockface beneath the site."
The new residence de tourisme – named Le Padisha – will be located just 200 yards from the tree-lined slopes of Courchevel 1850.
Scheduled for completion in December, 2009, the residence comprises 42 one-, two- three- and four-bedroom apartments. Off-plan prices currently range from €1.1m (£880,000) to €3.1m (£2.5m). These prices exclude VAT at 19.6%, which is waived under the leaseback arrangement.
