Plans for New Turkish Airport Boosts Property Accessibility
The recent news that Tepe Akfen Airports Holding (TAV) won the right to operate Turkey's Gazipaşa Airport for 25 years, has acted to further boost the interest of investors in what is already one of Europe's major property hotspots.
The new airport, which is due to open in 2008 for international passengers, will be approximately 20 minutes drive from Turkey's popular southern resort of Alanya.
The resort of Alanya
"This is fantastic news for anyone who already owns property in Alanya, as well as those looking to invest in the region," explains Sean Gillic, co-director of Turkish Property Invest (TPI), a full-service real estate agent, which specialises in new investment projects located along the Turkish Mediterranean coast, and in particular, Alanya.
"Not only will it render the area far more accessible, but it will also give the property market a huge lift. At Turkish Property Invest, we're already feeling the effects of the news, with more and more investors expressing an interest in Turkey's property market."
TAV Airports Holding, which already operates airports in Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara, is reportedly set to improve the Gazipaşa Airport and its runway to handle an estimated three million passengers a year in due course.
"Early indications show that the expected impact of the new airport will be extremely positive," says Mr. Gillic. "Anyone thinking of investing in the Turkish property market, and more specifically, in Alanya, would certainly be wise to do so now if they want to reap the benefits. It's certainly a very exciting time to be involved in Turkish Property."
The airport will be situated just 39km away from Alanya; a region which has long been one of Turkey's major resorts. Located on the country's Mediterranean coast, Alanya and its surrounding areas welcome approximately 1.2 million tourists each year.
This famous resort, often referred to as 'The Pearl of the Turkish Riviera', has approximately 320 days of sunshine per year, with the surrounding mountains from the north, east and west break the cool winds blowing from the inland, making it possible to bathe in the sea for over ten months of the year.
To the east and west of Alanya lie inviting turquoise seas fringed by extensive golden beaches. The magnificent Taurus Mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop, and crowning the headland is a sprinkling of citadel towers and just below, a delightful harbour guarded by the Red Tower - an unusual building dating from 1225.
"The area is steeped in history as well as being rich in cultural diversity," explains Mr. Gillic. "The region also boasts incredible natural beauty and an unbeatable beach life, plus a wide range of activities, such as paragliding, scuba diving, white-water rafting, golfing and even skiing!"
The Dimcayi River, just 6km outside of Alanya, offers another focal point for visitors to the region. Flowing from the Taurus Mountains down to the Mediterranean Sea, the cool water in this picturesque location guarantees a refreshing swim on a hot summer's day.
"Alanya has so much to offer which is why the region appeals to so many different people, both as the ideal holiday destination, and as the perfect place to buy property," says Mr. Gillic.
