About Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca stretches down the south eastern side of Spain, from the town of Denia in the north, to Torrevieja in the south. This holiday hotspot has a wide array of Mediterranean beaches along with shops, bars, restaurants, aquariums and theme parks, including the popular tourist attraction of Terra Mitica, just outside Benidorm. The Costa Blanca is a great location for keen golfers, with a range of courses dotted along the coastline, including the Oliva Nova Golf Club, arguably one of the best courses in the Costa Blanca.
Alicante is one of the most well-known cities on the Costa Blanca, with its golden beaches, beautiful seafront promenades, famous local cuisine and impressive ancient monuments, including the Castillo de Santa Bárbara (Santa Bárbara Castle). Benidorm, to the north of Alicante, is another popular tourist destination with its vibrant nightlife and famous beaches, namely Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas. Many who flock to Benidorm’s beaches take up the chance to enjoy snorkeling, waterskiing, scuba diving, windsurfing and an excursion in a glass-bottom boat.
Between Alicante and Santa Pola lies the city of Elche, famous for its art, tradition and, of course, the thousands of beautiful palm trees which characterise the city. This enchanting place is home to the Basilica of Santa Maria where a famous religious reenactment of the life of the Virgin Mary (called the Mystery of Elche) takes place. To the south of Elche lies the famous salt producing region of Torrevieja with its vast salt lakes. This area is also a fishing village and a popular destination with tourists who head to the restaurants to sample the local catch.
In the north of the Costa Blanca, the Altea area is proving popular with those looking to escape the bright lights of the more commercialised cities. This holiday haven provides a peaceful retreat with its picturesque old quarter, ancient cobbled streets, art and cultural delights and palm-fringed seafront. A walk up to the magnificent church, with its beautiful blue dome, provides breathtaking views over the mountains and bay of this enchanting location. With the inherent charms of the Javea, Moraira and Denia areas also proving popular with holidaymakers, the Costa Blanca certainly seems to have something to suit every taste.
