About Northern Cyprus

Northern Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean Sea, can be divided into the two regions of the Karpas Peninsula and the Kyrenia region. The Karpas Peninsula (or the ‘Panhandle’) lies to the east of the island, where the land tapers towards Turkey. This picturesque region is a haven for wildlife and boasts beautiful countryside as well as golden sandy beaches and remarkable churches, monasteries and mosques, including the Apostolos Andreas Monastery, one of the pilgrimage centres for the Cypriot Orthodox Church.

The Kyrenia region of Northern Cyprus is perhaps most famous for its historic harbour, framed by whitewashed buildings and the spectacular Kyrenia Castle. In fact, the region boasts several castles, including Kantara, Buffavento and St. Hilarion. The beaches in the area are another major attraction. Altinkaya beach is possibly the best family beach in Cyprus, with shallow waters suitable for paddling. If you enjoy snorkeling, the pebbly beach of Horseshoe Bay is likely to be the one for you, while the hotel beach of Mare Monte is a good location for swimming.

Within the Kyrenia mountain range is the tranquil village of Bellapais. This enchanting location offers stunning views and a charming relaxed atmosphere.
