About Costa Tropical
The Costa Tropical, so-called due to its sub-tropical climate, is the stretch of Spanish coastline in the province of Granada which lies to the east of the Costa del Sol. This popular region is favoured by those looking to escape the crowds and relax on the beautiful beaches of Spain’s southern shoreline. Verdant valleys filled with tropical fruits, dramatic cliffs sweeping down to the sea, sheltered coves, long sandy beaches, transparent waters, whitewashed towns, ancient castles and majestic mountains all add to the inherent charm of the Costa Tropical.
The region offers a wide array of activities including fishing, horse-riding, sailing, scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing and waterskiing, as well as the opportunity to play tennis and squash. Golf is another popular pastime on the Costa Tropical, where enthusiasts can practice their swing at the Club de Golf Los Moriscos, or the Granada Club de Golf, which both offer stunning views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
La Herradura, Almunecar, Salobrena and Motril are among the Costa Tropical’s popular resorts. The picturesque bay of La Herradura, arguably one of the prettiest bays in the area, is located between the two headlands of Punta de la Mona and Cerro Gordo. The village is a cluster of whitewashed buildings nestled on the slopes of a hill which rises gently from the coastline.
To the east of La Herradura is the beautiful town of Almunecar, which is steeped in history as exemplified by the Moorish castle of San Miguel at its heart. The charming old quarter, with its winding cobbled streets, proves popular with those eager to explore this historical treasure trove. The town is also home to a selection of popular beaches including the Playa Puerta del Mar and the Playa El Tesorillo.
Further along the coastline, the enchanting old town of Salobrena has won the hearts of holidaymakers and property buyers alike. Built on a hill crowned by an ancient castle and surrounded by sugar cane plantations, this stunning location is a picture-postcard Spanish gem boasting whitewashed buildings, historical monuments and beautiful beaches. Salobrena has a lively cultural scene and also provides opportunities for fishing, cycling, playing golf and tennis and taking part in water sport activities such as snorkeling and diving.
Motril is a bustling market town in the Costa Tropical, well-known for its busy commercial port from where the region’s tropical flowers and fruit are distributed. Fine sandy beaches, a lively fishing port, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, nightclubs and a yachting marina offering water sports and boat excursions to Morocco, all add to the appeal of this thriving town.
The Costa Tropical certainly has a lot to offer; so if you fancy finding your own piece of this Mediterranean paradise, take a look at our holiday rentals and properties for sale on this beautiful Spanish Costa now.
