About Venezuela
Venezuela covers much of the northern coast of South America and comprises a continental mainland along with several islands in the Caribbean Sea. Falling within the tropics, Venezuela’s shores are bathed by the same warm seas as nearby Barbados, rendering it a popular destination with holidaymakers and property buyers alike. The country’s diverse terrain offers lush forests; wide rivers; dramatic waterfalls; majestic mountains; tropical lowlands; stunning beaches; and turquoise waters ideal for water sports, snorkeling and diving.
The northern extreme of the Andes is situated to the far north east of the country, providing the perfect playground for trekkers and mountaineers eager to scale the lofty heights of this vast mountain range. Venezuela also boasts the highest waterfall in the world - the 3212 feet (979m) high Angel Falls in Canaima National Park which plunges down from the cliffs of the Devil’s Mountain (Auyan Tepui).
Caracas, the country’s capital, is situated within a valley of the Cordillera de la Costa Central mountain range, more commonly known as the Central Range. This chaotic city enjoys a spring-like climate and is home to modern skyscrapers and must-see monuments including Caracas Cathedral on the Plaza Bolivar and the Church of San Francisco. El Avila National Park overlooks the capital and attracts hikers eager to explore its lush green hills and mountains.
Margarita Island (Isla Margarita) is proving particularly popular with property buyers and renters. This tropical island has been likened to the Dominican Republic, with its beautiful beaches and warm sunny climate. The biggest city on Margarita Island is Porlamar which boasts restaurants, hotels and shopping malls. Pampatar, perhaps the prettiest of Margarita’s cities, is an enchanting, colonial-style region which has a picturesque harbour and warm sandy beaches. Juan Griego is another fishing village along the coast, where crystal clear waters offer a paradise for sailing and scuba diving enthusiasts.
