Property reference: HRT100602480 Watching their daughter ride out into surrounding forestry, the owners of Forest Hill Farm realise just how much they will miss their rolling 40 acres and extensive equestrian facilities The equestrian property has everything a rider could require, from space for training through to access to fabulous countryside for hacking across.
"When we moved here there was a huge building that was an indoor school," she explained. "There was also a galleried viewing area and seven stables.
"My daughter put in another eight stables and an office. She also added an archway, a clock tower and a floodlit ménage, where people can ride all year round."
Family life Forest Hill farm itself was originally a stone-built shepherd's cottage. Over the decades, however, it has been extended and updated, rendering it a substantial country home.
"When we bought the house six years ago we extended it further ourselves. We added a conservatory and extended the property upstairs to give us an extra bedroom, en suite bathroom and kitchen.
"We wanted to divide the accommodation so that my daughter and her husband would have their own space. The house as it is would work very well now for anyone else who had a relative living with them. Equally, it would be very easy to put it back to one complete house."
Stunning scenery The conservatory has, in fact, become one of the owners' favourite places in the house. Here they sit and relax whenever they have the chance.
"The conservatory is just amazing. We can sit in there and look out at the beautiful scenery. It really is a very lovely room in which to spend time," she said.
"Upstairs, there is a also a balcony that over-looks the scenery. We sit out there and have breakfast in the mornings. It is absolutely fabulous."
Sunlight and views The large house, which has been completely redecorated by the owners in neutral colours, to make the most of the natural light, also has a superb kitchen and dining room.
Featuring oak and stainless steel, it not only looks stylish but also makes a great family space.
"In the winter, we eat in the kitchen, which is lovely and warm. In the summer, we eat in the conservatory, where we can make the most of the sunlight and the views."
The sitting room, with its wood-burner, is another welcoming space when the weather is cold.
"In the warmer months, however, it is wonderful to open up the doors on to the terrace so we can wander out easily and can really enjoy the scenery even more," she added.
Tranquility and seclusion The owners of Forest Hill Farm have decided the time has come to move on. Now their daughter and son-in-law have moved away from the area.
