SITUATION Plymouth is a city adjacent to one of the most natural harbours in the world. To the North is the Dartmoor National Park extending to over 300 square miles and which provides excellent recreational facilities. Plymouth itself has a population of well over 200,000 and has a full range of shopping, educational and sporting facilities. There is mainline train service to London (Paddington) and to Penzance in West Cornwall. Plymouth has its own airport with flights to London (Gatwick) and other short haul destinations. Brittany Ferries operates seasonal services from Plymouth to France and Northern Spain.
Set within easy access to the City centre (approximately half a mile), The Millfields is a private, secure walled estate in close proximity to marinas, restaurants, theatres and shops. Grammar and Preparatory schools are close by with the Plymouth College Prep School now located within The Millfields. Access to Cornwall is within walking distance via the Cremyll Ferry, offering delightful walks at Mount Edgcumbe Estate and beaches at Whitsand Bay, Kingsand and Cawsand.
THE MILLFIELDS The Millfields is derived from the name of the land upon which the Naval Hospital stood from the time it was built in 1762. The walled estate extends to twenty six acres in total and comprises many Grade II Listed buildings. The name was reintroduced in 1995 when the Royal Navy abandoned the use as a hospital and the estate was sold and redeveloped in the 1990s. The Square comprises 10 Grade II Listed buildings and is entered via ornate gates set against impressive stone pillars.
THE ADMIRAL'S HOUSE The Admiral's House is the largest of the properties and is a magnificent example of Georgian architecture. It extends to approximately 8288 square feet (770 square metres) internally. As one wanders the substantial house and gardens today, it is easy to feel the history and imagine life all those years ago. Indeed, the servants' quarters and staircase remain today. Although in the centre of the City, the development offers a tranquil, country style setting and is considered one of the most prestigious addresses in Plymouth. External redecoration and maintenance works were conducted in 2006.
