LAKELAND COUNTRY INN. 4 star rated 18th century coaching inn recently refurbished to a very high standard to provide 8 en suite letting rooms, a popular restaurant and bar with a rising turnover. Stunning 3 bedroom living quarters. Situated in the delightful Lowther valley in the north eastern Lake District close to Mardale and Haweswater. Freehold.
The Crown and Mitre is a former Coaching Inn dating back to 1720. A prominent detached white rendered stone building, located in the delightful Lowther Valley, very close to the head of beautiful Mardale and Haweswater. This side of The Lake District is unspoilt although still attracts a high visitor level, including walkers on the Wainwright Coast to Coast route. This 4 star rated inn has been recently refurbished to a very high standard with 8 well appointed en-suite letting bedrooms, a popular restaurant and bar. All the public rooms have all been re-wired during the refurbishment and the cellar has new lines and cooling systems fitted. There is a stunning second floor owners apartment with 3 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and large living room with separate access. The hugely popular Coast to Coast Walk, conceived by Alfred Wainwright, traverses Englands National Parks from St. Bees to Robin Hoods Bay and crosses the nearby Kidsty Pike, the highest point on the 190 mile route. It then follows the Haweswater shoreline and arrives in Bampton Grange as an overnight stay and oasis. This 15 day expedition attracts around 10,000 walkers a year and the Crown and Mitre is situated in an area where Wainwright stated "the quality of the scenery and excellence of the walking rank among the best of Lakeland". This area is stunning and unspoilt.Wonderful rolling fells run down to the valley and the River Lowther and Haweswater Beck, both of which are apparently well stocked trout rivers. At the head of the stunning Mardale valley, no more than 10 minutes away, the Lakeland fells have a charm that is unique, romantic in atmosphere, dramatic in appearance, colourful, craggy, with swift running sparkling streams, Red Deer and a Golden Eagle. It is however only 5 miles from Junction 39 of the M6 and very easy access for travellers from the South and Penrith lies 11 miles away.Ground FloorA welcoming Entrance Lobby and Reception Area with seating lead to the tastefully decorated Dining Room with relaxing low voltage lighting, a feature alcove and a comfortable 22 covers. The Entrance Lobby also leads to the Lounge Bar with open log fire and stylish detail combining contemporary design with the best of tradition. Fixed and free leather seating compliment the relaxing environment created by tasteful decor and accessories and a combination of low voltage lighting and original multi pane windows. Off the Reception Area there are Ladies and Gents toilets and a Catering Kitchen and Office/Staff Room beyond. To the rear is a small garden area with an arbour and seating.First FloorFrom the Reception Area a wide stairway leads onto a spacious Landing which features French doors onto a unique Balcony giving splendid views over the nearby fells. There 8 very well appointed and tastefully decorated Letting Bedrooms, comprising six doubles/ twins and two singles, all with en-suite shower rooms, good quality beds, furniture and linen, mainly new carpets, coffee/tea making facilities, flat screen televisions and DVD players.Second FloorOn the Second Floor are spacious private Living Quarters featuring a useful Landing with Study and Store Area; Master Bedroom with attractive feature beams and built in wardrobes; good sized Bathroom with large free standing bath, separate corner shower unit, toilet and vanity basin and a Living room with kitchen area.
