Only 20 minutes to the coast.Very near the town of bViÑuela/b, the visitor can admire the dramatic setting of the lake of the same name, Lago ViÑuela. It is a man made reservoir and the principal source of water for the eastern part of the province of Malaga which in the early sixties became famous as the Costa del Sol. It is also used for the irrigation of more than 2.700 hectares of land and holds 170 million cubic metres of the most precious liquid on the planet. It covers an area of 700 hectares and has the hamlet of Los Romanes on its eastern bank from where there are breathtaking views across the turquoise waters to the mountains of the Sierra Alhama and Tejeda, snowcapped during the short winter season. It was constructed on the River Guaro watercourse and is also fed by the tributaries Sabar, Salia Bermuza, Rubite and Almachar.
