The Development:
Set at the entrance of Peyrolles en Provence village and 20 minutes from Aix en Provence, the residence Terra Solea offers 1 to 3 bedrooms apartments with wooden terraces, private gardens, parkings and views on the Luberon Mountains. Situated north of the Durance Valley and Luberon, south of the beautiful Montagne Sainte Victoire, the village is surrounded by the most beautiful Provencal landscapes and all amenities are close to hand. Planted with trees and flowers, the common patios are surrounding the elegant building that combines contemporary architecture with typical Provence colors. The residence is fully enclosed and secured thanks to videophones and each entrance door is equipped with a 3-point lock. Competitive thermal insulation, towel heaters in bathrooms and individual gas heating is installed. As well as being comfortable and secured, each accommodation benefits from the advantages of a low consumption construction (‘Batiment Basse Consommation’).
The Location:
Peyrolles en Provence, once a fortified Medieval village, is now a small farming and wine-growing town on the plains of the Durance river. The Medieval Old Town of Peyrolles is only a small part of this busy place, but it has a very picturesque entry through an arched gate beneath a tall clock tower with its iron campanile. The ancient Romanesque chateau of Roi Rene sits as a massive rectangular block, last restored in the 17th century. Today it serves also as the Town Hall. Also the pretty little Chapelle du Saint Sepulcre sits on a low hill, the site of the first castrum (castle) dating back to the 9th or 10th century. Peyrolles is a quiet little town during the "off season", but in the summer time there are constant activities, fetes and celebrations going on. There are other interesting sites to see including the Saint-Pierre church and its Roman nave, the 12th century Chapelle Notre Dame d'Astors and its oratories, fountains and belfry, and the Abeou waterfall. Nature lovers will also be amazed by the natural and historic heritage of the commune thanks to the "sentier de découverte du Loubatas" created by the "Centre Permanent d'Initiation à la Forêt Provençale".
Activities:
The lovers of nature will appreciate the trail of Loubatas – a 4.5-hour walk through the richest forest of Bouches-du-Rhone. One can also swim in the Plantain lake, fish, play petanque and tennis. There is a rally and an exhibition of antique cars, end of July, a regular flea market and a theatre festival "Nuits Theatrales de l'Emperi" in July.
Food and Drink – local specialities:
Fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood feature heavily in Provençal cuisine reflecting the climate and geography of the region and differentiating it from the cuisine of other regions of France. Typical dishes include bouillabaisse (a seafood stew made with tomatoes, olive oil, wine, herbs and spices), daube Provençal (stew of vegetables, garlic, herbs and beef braised in wine), soupe au pistou (a minestrone-style soup made from tomatoes, beans, summer squashes, potatoes, olive oil and basil) and aïoli (a thick, garlic mayonnaise often served with fish).
