The Development:
Located in Saint Malo in a residential area, the residence Les Vergers d’Helios offers 3 to 4 bedroom townhouses with private gardens and studio to 2 bedroom apartments. The residence benefits from an exceptional location only 15 minutes from the town centre and close to shops and schools. The building responds to the label BBC (Batiment Basse Consommation=Low Consumption Building) which guarantees the respect of energy-efficient standards, in helping saving energy.
The Location:
Once the island home to the fearful corsairs (pirates-come-privateers), famed explorer Jacques Cartier (who colonized Canada) and the esteemed writer Chateaubriand, the spectacular fortified city of St Malo has much to offer residents with all the amenities you have come to expect (bakers, supermarkets, banks etc), lots of bars and restaurants (many of which serve traditional Breton cuisine), thermal baths and some beautiful walks around the atmospheric walled city (the Intra-Muros). And with its vast and clean beaches, it is easy to see why St Malo is the most visited place in Brittany. This beautiful city is also an excellent base from which to explore the rest of Brittany with its many menhirs (a Breton word borrowed into English meaning ‘long stone’), its elaborately carved crucifixion scenes sited at the crossroads of many villages and small towns across the area, not to mention the beautiful chateaux and manor houses locally. Why not visit the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Mont saint Michel or the world’s first large-scale tidal plant in Rance, where flood and ebb tides are used to generate electricity?
Activities:
Activities available locally include: aerobics, athletics, martial arts, badminton, squash, tennis, table tennis, rugby, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, ice hockey, ice skating, figure skating, land yachting, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, climbing, weightlifting, swimming, sea kayaking, wind surfing, sailing, fencing, archery, yoga, bowls, walking and many more.
Food – local specialities:
Seafood features heavily in Breton cuisine reflecting the geography of the region - surrounded as it is on three sides by the sea. Typical dishes include palourdes farcis (baked clams stuffed with garlic, herbs and shallots, cooked in white wine), coquilles Saint Jacques (scallops cooked in their shells with cheese, potatoes, mushrooms, shallots and white wine, topped with crispy breadcrumbs), Breton cotriade (a fish stew traditionally made with conger eel and the remains of the catch of the day, mixed with potatoes, garlic, parsley, onions and white wine), pot au feu d’homard (a lobster stew with oysters, scallops, mussels and shrimps) and finally crêpes and galettes, popular all over France but originating here. The region is also well-known for the quality of its lamb.
