Hyeres is the most southerly city of Provence and one of the sunniest and comes with 39km of pristine sand beaches and rocky inlets to explore. As a result, the town is frequently referred to as Hyeres Les Palmiers (Palmiers = palm trees). It was once the favorite summer location of celebrities, the intellectual elite and the wealthy. The magnificent homes they built near the old city at the beginning of the century still stand as a testament to its past. A combination of charm, climate and wonderful scenery makes Hyeres and the nearby Golden Island (Iles d’Or), including Porquerolles, Port Cros and Ile du Levant, a special place to live in. The port for private boats and its sheltered anchorage ensures Hyeres is a first rate boating centre. With all the equipment available and the presence of the French sailing team Hyeres is not about to relinquish its place as a boating port of international importance.
