Constructed in local white limestone, the gardens of this attractive town house provide an oasis of calm in the bustling little market town of Valenay (population 2,665). Approached from the street, the entrance to the chateau is just yards away and from the window of one of the bedrooms its turrets are a charming sight over neighbouring rooftops. Solidly built of thick local stone and with double-glazing to the windows, the town is no disturbance at all. The entrance hall has original tiled flooring which extends (in a different pattern) into the kitchen. This is fully fitted with robust wood units and much of the equipment will stay. The living room is a special attraction and extends from the front to the rear of the house, creating a light, open space. A stone fireplace with wood-burning insert provides much of the heating for the house. It is used both as dining room and lounge, with patio doors leading out to the shady garden. Also on the ground floor is a W.C. and bathroom, also used as the laundry. A lovely winding wood stairway leads to the first floor and on up to the loft. From the landing (currently used as a little office) doors open into the bedrooms of which there are currently three. Future owners may choose to convert one of these into en-suite facilities for the remaining two, adding bedrooms in the loft if more are needed. The three double rooms all have attractive wood floors and one features an antique marble fireplace. Two rooms overlook the street while the third has a garden (and chateau) view. Other features of the property include the loft, crying out to be converted, a cool stone cellar and at the rear of the garden, a beautiful older building which would convert to guest accommodation. The garden is of a reasonable size, with flowers, shrubs, climbers and a shade tree, ideal for outdoor dining and relaxation. A tank under the patio receives all the rainwater and is used to water the garden. Plumbing and electrics are all recent and the house is in excellent condition; maintained and decorated with taste and care, it is ready to move in and enjoy. This house would make a dream holiday property but is large enough to be a permanent residence in a highly desirable location.
