Location
The property is located in the Comune of San Lorenzo Nuovo, only 2 kms from the beautiful Bolsena lake and approximately 6 kms from the centre of the village. The hamlet of Bolsena is situated in the heart of Southern Etruria on the edge of its namesake lake which is the largest volcanic lake in Italy, it is also well known for the purity and cleanliness of its water. The fish Coregone (which is a freshwater whitefish) thrives in the lake which in itself indicates the quality of the water. It is delicious to eat and is featured in much of the local cuisine. The village itself is dominated by the Monaldeschi castle which dates from the XIII century but it is also rich with other history including Etruscan and Roman remains and important early Christian works (the Miracle of Eucarestia). A visit to the island of Bisentina and to the picturesque villages which surround the lake is certainly recommended. Other places of interest which are very close to the property are the City of Montefiascone and Capodimonte and just a little further afield Viterbo and Saturnia, the latter being famous for its beautiful thermal springs. Ancient villages and hamlets just asking to be 'discovered' such as Tuscania, Pitigliano, Bagnoregio and Civita di Bagnoregio are only a short drive away. It is very easy to reach Siena and Rome by using the Cassia road and at the Trevinano fork you can follow the road which leads to all of the most famous towns in Tuscany such as : Cetona,Sarteano and San Casciano dei Bagni. Within 30 - 50 minutes drive of the property you can easily reach the little cities of Umbria such as Citta della Pieve, Todi and Orvieto which is situated on top of dramatic cliffs which in the past helped to protect it's dominant position, with its beautiful Duomo (which has frescoes inside including the famous 'Giudizio Universale' by Signorelli). Woodlands, meadows, meandering streams and parks including those monumental parks of Bomarzo all surround this wonderful area of Italy. All this marvellous natural, historic and artistic heritage is within easy reach of the property, as is the A1 motorway which is only 30 kms away using the exit at Fabro if you are travelling northwards and Orvieto if you are travelling southwards, with both Rome and Florence being only just over an hours drive.
