Alhaurin el Grande is located 30km from the capital city of Malaga on the Costa del Sol. It is situated 239 metres above sea level and is one of the most picturesque villages in the Guadalhorce river valley.

Nestled within rolling hills and wide open spaces that give a real feel of space, the area to the north consists of plains, where agriculture is the main type of farming. To the south and southeast are the mountains.

There is a lovely view over the Hoya de Málaga, of vast plains of citrus trees and other fruit trees.

Close to the towns of Coin and Alhaurin de la Torre, which are interesting day trips, and offer many services that cannot be found in Alhaurin el Grande.

The Mediterranean coast is quite close, with Fuengirola and Mijas situated along a winding road that hugs the mountain.

The weather in Alhaurin el Grande consists of a mild climate with light winds that blow predominately from the north and west.

Alhaurin el Grande is a good place to try spanish tapas and attend many cultural activities like jazz, flamenco festivals and the feria in June, processions in Semana Santa (Easter), and sport activities like tennis, golf in three courses or trekking in Sierra de Mijas and Cártama.

Worth a visit is the small church and the ancient moorish tower in Torrealqueria with its famous gardens. Also the moorish mill in Alhaurin el Grande, (where Gerald Brenand lived and died), and the impossible rock shapes in El Torcal.
