Located on the evergreen island of Alonissos this delightful Old Village home is a well maintained property and considerably larger than most village houses as it has been renovated from both a house and a cobbler???s shop.

Officially the house measures 104 square metres, but actual internal measurements are only 70 square metres - the difference being the thickness of the solid stone walls!

The house stands on a 140m2 plot.

The house has a 30 cubic metre water tank (sterna), mains water and mains electricity.

A wrought iron gate leads into the courtyard which incorporates a raised sitting area, with good sea views and a 2.25 x 2.25m store room (apotheki).

For shade on hot summer days the current owners have recently erected a pergola over the sitting area and are now training the existing bougainvillea over it.

Round the corner behind the house is a further shady courtyard area (3 x 2.75m) with a plum tree. It would be possible to extend the accommodation utilising this space if required.

From the courtyard a door opens into the kitchen area, with traditional Alonissos fireplace and wood beamed ceiling, tiled floor and windows to the courtyard. This is a large room (4 x 3.7m) with fitted units and plenty of space for a dining table and a small sofa.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a very useful walk-in store room and a door from the kitchen leads into the very large (2.75 x 2m) shower room. The shower room also has a lovely beamed ceiling, is three quarter tiled, has a tiled floor, a window to the courtyard. There is ample space to install a full sized bath if required.

The kitchen, store room and shower room are in the part of the house that is single storey and was originally a cobbler???s shop. There is planning permission to build a second floor therefore the property has potential to become a 2 or 3 bedroom house if required.

Adjacent to this are two large rooms; one upstairs and one downstairs, which would originally have been a complete Old Village house.

Steps up from the kitchen lead to the living room, this measures 5.5 x 4m and has a traditional wood beamed ceiling, wooden floor, windows to three sides and doors to the balcony.

Originally this room consisted of a hallway and two smaller rooms but was converted by the owners to the present lovely lounge. There is ample space for a guest bed, or the room could easily be reconverted into a sitting room adjacent to the kitchen and a bedroom with balcony and sea views at the front.

Wooden stairs lead from the living room to the bedroom (again 5.5 x 4m) which also has a lovely old wooden beamed ceiling, tiled floor and a window and door to the front of the house. A feature is the outcrop of bedrock which is exposed in one corner under the stairs.

From the balcony, which is accessed from the living room, there are good sea views across to outer islands called The Two Brothers and Peristera to the left and Kato Chorafi to the right.

This property is ideally situated just a few minutes walk from the facilities of the Old Village but away from the noisier areas and with parking nearby. It is possible to get a scooter/bike as far as the house.

If you are looking for a well maintained, reasonably sized village property, with character, for holidays or all year round living, then this home is well worth viewing.

The nearest beaches are at Megalos Mourtias and Mikro Mourtias. Megalos Mourtias is a favourite among the inhabitants of the Old Village, as they can walk down to it using a signed footpath in about 15-20 minutes. It is also highly accessible by car and/or motorbike - approx 5 minutes.

The beach is covered with smooth white pebbles. In the sea you will find silky smooth sand. There is a gentle slope, the water gradually getting deeper. You can find shade under the beach umbrellas or under the olive trees that grow a few meters away from the sea???

There are 2 tavernas on the beach and a third on the road just a few metres from the beach. All sell fresh fish and traditionally Greek food.

Contrary to its busy ???Big brother??? the beach of Mikros Mourtias is a quiet beach with no facilities. The pebble beach is relatively small; there is a big patch of fine sand in the sea. The beach is encircled with rocky cliffs, creating breathtaking scenery. At the back of the beach are old olive trees where you can find good shade.

On its right end there is an old abandoned building that was once used by people living in the Old Village, when they wanted to visit the island of Skopelos.

Being so quiet and relatively isolated, the beach is sometimes proffered by nudists. It is also very likely that when visiting you might be the only people there, so it really feels sometimes like it is your own private beach!!!

The water at both beaches is crystal clear with a beautiful silky blue colour. In order to get the most out of your visit in any of the beaches in Alonissos, it is a good idea to bring a mask and a snorkel, so that you can enjoy the underwater beauty and colour display. Even those that are not snorkel enthusiasts should be prepared to be dazzled by the beauty of the underwater scenery of Alonissos.
