The village:
Gorsko Kalugerovo is a nice and picturesque village in the hilly area, right at the North side of the Balkan Mountain, near the river Rositsa and several dam lakes. The climate is temperate, with fresh and cool air, salubrious for the respiratory organs.
The village is small, with population of about 150 people, most of them ortodoxal christians. All the basic utilities like Post- Office, shops, cafes, pubs, etc. are provided. Regular transportation to the surronding towns and villages is also available.
The Municipality
Suhindol municipality is situated in Central North Bulgaria and is bordered by the municipalities of Pavlikeni, Levski, Letnitsa and Sevlievo. The total area is 157.55 km2 of which 5.41 km2 are settlements and other urbanized territories. The municipality includes 5 villages and the town of Suhindol, which is its administrative center. The archeological research findings show the presence of Thracians, Romans and Slavs on this territory. The local toponymy is mostly of Slav origin. Area of Suhindol is wel known wine region with a lot of wine cellars.
The District
The village is part of Veliko Tarnovo district – it is in the middle of the northern part of Bulgaria. Its capital city, Veliko Tarnovo, is of historical significance as it is known as the capital of Medieval Bulgaria.
Other towns in the province include Gorna Oryahovitsa, which is within 10 kilometres of Veliko Tarnovo; Svishtov - set on Danube River and famous for its Tsenov Academy of Economics; and Suhindol - the hometown of Lovico — an internationally recognised label for fine wines and spirits.
Another notable place is the village of Arbanasi, set between Veliko Tarnovo and Gorna Oryahovitsa. The combination of old style and modern architecture, as well as its churches and monasteries, present the spirit of Bulgaria.
