The area is also steeped in history & a worthwhile visit is to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, in Torrevieja or take a scenic drive through the orange and lemon groves to the town of Orihuela. The old part of town was declared a historic, artistic and monumental area in 1969. There are many historic buildings, six of these are declared of Cultural Heritage importance. Here there is also museums and a wealth of information about local history.  Other local attractions include hot air balloon flights, horse riding, scuba diving and health treatments centred around the healing powers of mud!
