The Borders of the Charente & Dordogne are typified by open rolling hills and woodland, set with charming small hamlets, secluded villages and historic market towns such as Mareuil Sur Belle, Villebois Lavalette and Riberac. Agriculture is still predominant in the landscape with fields of sunflowers and corn being interspersed with cattle and sheep, whilst foie gras production and vineyards are also evident.
Angoulême, with its TGV service to Paris and Bordeaux is just half an hour away. Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne is about 45 minutes. Limoges, Bordeaux and Bergerac with airports offering regular flights to and from the U.K. are all within 1.5 hours. The Channel Ports are reached in about 7 hours.
The area annually has an average of around 2000 hours of sunshine with hot (but not boiling!) spring and summers, generally mild winters and far less rain than upland areas such as the Limousin.
