About Margarita Island:
Margarita Island is located off the north east Caribbean coast of Venezuela and is one of three islands comprising the state of “NUEVA ESPARTA” discovered by Christopher Columbus. The islands cover 1,150 square kilometers; Margarita is the largest and most developed of these.
The highest point on the island lies 1,000 metres above sea level and offers spectacular views of the surrounding island, coast and Caribbean waters.

The island is blessed with 320 days sunshine a year. Temperatures range from 78°F (26°C) in January to 88°F (31°C) in September. Night time temperatures are about 4 to 5 degrees cooler.
There are beautiful tropical beaches lined with palm trees and a resident population of around 350,000, which increases dramatically during the holiday season.

There are direct flights to margarita from the UK, Holland and Germany. A range of international airlines fly into Caracas, the capital of Venezuela; Margarita is a 35 minute onward flight.

The island attracts a large sailing community who anchor principally at the Concorde Hotel Bay at Porlamar. El Yaque beach is world famous destination for windsurfing and related beach sports.

Shopping on Margarita:
Venezuelans and visitors alike take advantage of the islands status as a duty-free port. The downtown heart of Porlamar is a chaotic jumble of shops and small department stores selling everything from perfume, lingerie, electronics, and appliances to alcohol and foodstuffs. In 2002, the Puerto de la mar pier was opened for cruise ship traffic, allowing cruise passengers to disembark in downtown Porlamar. In recent years, however, large shopping centres have been attracting shoppers away from the downtown options. The biggest of them is the new Centro Sambil Margarita in Pampatar. Other popular centres including the Centro Commercial Rattan Plaza in Los Robles; and Centro Commercial Jumbo.

The beautiful Last Wind Resort – Musipan sits just off Playa El Yaque one of Margaritas most stunning beaches located in the south of the Island. This little beach has become an eldorado for sea sport participants. It is one of the world’s greatest destinations for windsurfing and a host of other water sports.

Water Sports:
On the island we have incorporated a centre of windsurfing excellence where expert windsurfers can train for the international regattas. The location is also perfect for windsurfing beginners.

Because of the constant breeze, Margarita island is an ideal destination for kite-surfers, a sport rapidly on the increase. The area boasts among the highest number of “wind days” in the world.

Musipan, Last Wind is a resort within itself and is ideally located only ten minutes from the airport and five minutes from the nightlife of Playa El Yaque. A regular ferry service allows visitors the chance to visit the beautiful island of Coche only 20 minutes away.

Margarita Island is formed by two peninsulas joined by an isthmus. It covers an area of 1,020 km². It splits into two sections linked by an 18-km (11-mi) spit of sand. It is 78 km long and its widest side measures roughly 20 km. The climate is very sunny and dry with temperatures from 24 to 37°C.
