Former stately home in Bornos, Cadiz
HISTORY
This property is believed to have been built at the end of the XVI century and was the home of Los Carrascos, later it was the residence of the Marquises of Salvatierra and then in the XX century was used as a community house and for other purposes including a savings bank. It was finally abandoned 20 years ago.
Features
This once elegant stately home is built over two floors and retains many of its original features such as the marble pillars in the interior patio, intricate masonry work on the façade and the family coat of arms. Sadly much of the woodwork and ironwork has been lost due to deterioration and vandalism.
A project has been carried out to restore the property and convert it into a two-star hotel with an art gallery, restaurant and café. The property’s renaissance garden would add greatly to a hotel’s charm.
The plans for a hotel include an apartment for the owners or managers and 10 bedrooms. The property could be registered as a casa rural and would have no trouble attracting business due to its location in the centre of the town and in a tourist area.
Opposite the building are the Jardines del Palacio Ducal (the Duke’s Palace Gardens) and in the vicinity are a castle, a monastery, two convents, several churches, and other stately homes.
The property is 800m2 and has a floorspace of 1,500m2.
Bornos, which some believe takes its name from an IndoEuropean word ‘born’ meaning hot, referring to its thermal springs, is in the northern part of the Cadiz Province, 40km from Jerez, 80km from Cadiz and de Ronda, and 90km from Seville and the A4 motorway.
