Features
This beautiful stone mountain house in Vegacernega, Picos de Europa dates from the end of the 18th century and start of the 19th century.

In the mid-19th century this unique house, at the entrance to Vegacerneja, was originally a forge, a prosperous business in those times. Its popular owner was a well-credited merchant in the area who always ordered the best materials for his projects, such as the magnificent carved stones round the doors and windows, unique in the village.
With the passing of the years the house has had many occupants and has passed hands in auctions, sales, donations etc… including becoming the property of the state when it was about to be submerged by waters of the Riaño reservoir, but was finally saved.
In 2004 it underwent the best restoration in its history, loyal to the original materials and structure.
The house is now protected heritage as a clear example of mid-19th century popular mountain architecture.
