Borda in Javierrelatre
Javierrelatre is home to the exhibition centre of the Huesca painter Leoncio Mairal who lived in the village, as did the Nobel awarded Santiago Ramon y Cajal, who first discovered neurons.
The cave of La Mora is in the area of the Virgin of Los Ríos and can be visited by anyone brave enough as it is said that a witch lived there and she would come down to the villages to kill mules.
In an attempt to ward off her and any other witches the people throughout the area put witch scarers in their chimneys.
The people also wanted to steal the virgin and bring her to their mountain and keep her closer for protection but they were unable to do so because every time they went to bring her down they suddenly fell asleep. In the end they decided it was impossible and gave up but this is why they are known as ‘furta santos’ (saint stealears).
