Once the seaside retreat for the turn of the century English aristocracy, the city of Nice is France's fifth largest city. And though it still has some of the 'Grand Dame of the Côte d'Azur' character there is much more history and character than a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais with its Belle Époque splendor might first suggest.
There is an underlying character, an independent spirit, which rejects the central governing influence emanating from Paris. The Niçoise do what the Niçoise want to do, as and when they want to do it. Nice occasionally rouses itself from its appearance of genteel torpor. Even as early in the year as February there's an elaborate three-week carnival held with its 'Batailles des Fleurs' (Battle of Flowers). And from then on through spring, summer there's always something going on, perhaps the big one being the Jazz Festival at Cimiez in July
Nice is sophisticated, has all of life's luxuries, and a superb setting on the Baie des Anges (the Bay of Angels) facing Antibes, yet it is nonetheless discreetly Mediterranean in its way of doing municipal business. the city of Nice has some glorious architecture, a superb promenade and access to some truly beautiful villages perched up in the valleys which cut through the mountains to the north. And as home to the France's second busiest airport it's probably one of the easiest and comfortable Mediterranean destinations to visit and find out for yourself.
Lined with cafes and hotels, both modern and Belle Époque, museums and posh apartments, the Promenade des Anglais is a long wide road which runs the length of the seafront at Nice. You walk across it and you're on the beach beside an unbelievably blue Mediterranean.
The actual promenade itself begins at the eastern end of Nice by the Jardin Albert I and runs westward towards the airport - a long way. The older and grander hotels of the Promenade des Anglais were built at the turn of the century. In most people's eyes, the grandest, with its Empire and Napoléon decor, is the Negresco.
There are many more pleasures to be discovered on and around the Promenade des Anglais. On the Avenue des Baumettes, there is the Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules. And, in a little park on Rue de France just off the promenade, there is the Musée Masséna named after a local boy who was made a Napoleonic general.
This new development is found only 5 minutes walk from all these wonderful things. Situated on one of the wide leafy streets in the Musicians Quarter it is only minutes away from the pedestrianised shopping area with its fashionable boutiques and restaurants and an equal distance to the sea.
The apartments are of the best quality and range from 1- 4 bedrooms with some being split level duplexes. Each apartment has a balcony, some with views towards the sea. There is private parking for each apartment.
