Features
As the gate to the Cote d'Azur and the Alpes de Haute Provence, the department of the Var has many visitors. It's beautiful landscape with both mountains and sea and its sunny Mediterranean climate provide tourists with an exceptional place to visit.
Le Haut Var, with its old villages perched high in the mountains makes for quiet cool summer holidays. There is plenty of hiking in the Gorges du Verdon from Montauroux in the east or Bargème in the north, Artignosc and Artigues in the west. There are vast forests where one can discover truffles or mushrooms and sometimes even wild boars! For those who prefer fishing canoeing or swimming the many lakes, rivers and waterfalls should satisfy them.
L'Arrière-Pays Varois (inland)
is the interior of the Var formed by hills and valleys, plantations and pine forests. Because of its very sunny climate, the agricultural production is varied and plentiful. There are 37,000 (approximately 90,000 acres) of vineyards operated by 450 different vintners. This land produces the most flowers of France. Its fruit, vegetables, honey (27,000 hives) lavender, thyme, and olive oil are the pride of the people who live in this region.
Draguignan
Once the prefecture of Var, this rapidly developing city is changing from an administrative and military center to a tourist and cultural attraction. Lovely avenues lined with plane trees surround the old city where one can find ancient houses with sculptured doors and impressive portals.
Strolling about one can stop and admire the city squares each with its own history The Tour de l'Horloge, the market place, the ancient chapels and the St. Michel Church are all fine examples of Provencal style architecture. There are many museums to visit, in particular the Musée des Arts et Traditions Provençales which has an extensive exhibit of traditional crafts and materials. Draguignan is more suited as an every day base, good for shopping or markets than as a tourist location, especially if you prefer the distractions of a town rather than a village. There are the shops of the town centre, then up east in to the Old Town with its wonderful food markets, winding streets, cafes and intimate little bistros.
The Development
To the west of Draguignan runs the river Nartuby, down from the prehistoric gorges and caves, into meadowlands and pastures forming anidyllic haven. It is here, in a residential area, that the development has been built in perfect synchronicity with its surroundings. The 44 apartments have been divided into 5 bulidings, no more than 1 story high, so that they blend seamlessly into their surroundings. The development is set in mature landscaped grounds, full of trees and plants and will also benefit from having a large outdoor swimming pool. The style is very mediteranean with pale pink and honey coloured facades and extensive use of wood to give it a very natural look. The apartments themselves have tiled floors, fully equipped bathrooms and kitchens, electric heating, digi code and videophone security, large terraces, balconies and satellite television.
