Lorien is a ‘petite ferme’ with smallholding, offering a non-smoking self-catering gîte or bed and breakfast accommodation when the gîte is unoccupied. Lorien is directly on the Santiago de Compostela walking and cycling pilgrimage route in beautiful countryside in the north of the Dordogne.

Features

Lorien is situated in the Périgord Vert area of the Dordogne and in the Périgord-Limousin National Park. This provides a landscape of hills, valleys and lakes, ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. The area is also home to a host of wild animals and rare birds. The 4 rivers that cross the region provide excellent canoeing and fishing. Nearby inland beaches offer a wide range of water sport activities.

Périgord Vert is famous for its beautiful countryside, pretty villages, stunning châteaux and prehistoric caves. The area is also renowned as the gastronomic centre of France, rich in local produce including truffles, cèpes, foie gras, duck and goose, walnuts and escargot.

Excellent road links from Thiviers (just 5kms from Lorien) make it an ideal base for exploring all of the attractions of the Dordogne and Limousin. The medieval town of Sarlat, the prehistoric caves at Lascaux, the vineyards in St Emilion, Bergerac and Bordeaux and the poignant ‘Village of the Martyrs’ at Oradour sur Glane near Limoges - all within easy day trip distance of Lorien.

EXPERIENCE THE 'SMALLHOLDERS LIFE'
Have you always dreamt of having your own few acres of land; keeping stock and poultry; growing and living off your own food? If you think this might be the life for you, why not enjoy the chance to experience this at Lorien.

Join Ian and Check McEwen as they look after their 14 sheep and 8 chickens; tend their vegetables, 40 fruit trees and 30 vines.

Are you thinking of moving to France? Do you need French for your work? Do you want to improve your French language skills to make things easier when you visit on holiday? French classes can be arranged on site in a relaxed atmosphere, with a French ‘professor’ with extensive experience, fully qualified to teach French as a foreign language.

IN FRANCE SUPPORT
If you are hoping to move to France, finding your way about and dealing with the authorities can be daunting. Ian and Check can provide help and support, or point you in the direction of others who can help you find your way through the maze, dealing with the estate agents, visiting properties, finding a ‘notaire’, doctor, bank etc.
